Fat Tire Social next Thursday January 19, 2017 6:30pm - 9:30pm at The Bearded Goat, 116 E Lewis St, Greensboro. No food served but it's located around the corner from Mellow Mushroom Pizza. Come by, have a cool one and talk bikes or anything else that comes up. Hope to see you there.

The Trail Workshop hosted by the Greensboro/Piedmont Fat Tire Society filled up fast!

We had close to 50 folks come out to learn the fundamentals of sustainable trail construction in the morning then spend the afternoon in the beautiful woods on the Guilford College campus applying what they learned. The trail being built leads to an old growth Tulip Poplar tree that is hundreds of years old. A very impressive tree to say the least. Guilford College Students will complete the trail over the winter. Below is a link to an article (with video) from the Greensboro News & Record and some pictures of the day.

We are having a Fat Tire Society get together at Gibbs Hundred Brewing Company this Friday evening, 12/9/16 from 7-10 pm. We've got a couple goodies to give away and I think I heard the Crafted Taco truck will be there. Stop by and see how many folks you can recognize without their bike or riding gear on. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Dear Trail Enthusiast,

We are pleased to inform you about the Fat Tire Societies upcoming Trail Building Workshop.

By attending the Trail Building School workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to learn the basics of planning, designing and constructing sustainable hand-built trails. Our goal is train those volunteers who are willing to help us build new single track trail in the next two years.

The class will be from 8:30 - 4:00 on 12/10/16.

Class size is limited. Click here to register now!

Our morning will begin with a classroom presentation as we detail the fundamental steps to planning for and constructing low-impact singletrack. This presentation will discuss (but is not limited to) the steps needed for successful planning and land manager relations, understanding our user base, understanding system layout and progression, the principles of grade and how to measure it, flagging and pinning corridor, procedures for proper bench cutting, and the principles of maintenance and understanding seasonal impacts.

Following the presentation we will enjoy a quick lunch before heading into the field to construct a segment of trail using principles from the classroom. The workshop will begin with a safety talk and quick demonstration of common trail building tools. Volunteers will then get their chance to sink the tools into the dirt as we work together to build hand-cut singletrack. We will wrap up with a quick debrief on how to care for and maintain new trail before the day is over.

If you are interested in participating please register for the class as soon as possible. We have a limited amount of positions available and advance registration is required.
