The GFTS board would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a great 2015 and wish you Happy Holidays.

As 2015 draws to a close and we begin to make plans and resolutions for 2016 let us not forget to give as well as receive. While we are thankful for the new wheels, tires, or dingy bell from one of our great local bike shops, let us also be thankful for the miles of quality trail that we have access to. When we resolve to spend more time on our bike in 2016 or get a new fastest time on Wild Turkey, let's also resolve to give back to our trails, either through our financial donations, memberships or volunteer hours.

The GFTS resolves to give you our hard work on and off of the trail so that wherever you ride in 2016 you have an epic adventure.

Thank you and Happy Holidays,

Scott S. Mark G. Scott V. Matt H. Matt S. Chris H. Chris P. Tony M. and Watts D.

Thanks to those that came out to the County Commission meeting Thursday evening. A special thanks to those that spoke about what Mountain Biking really is and what it means to our community.

Click here to read a balanced article about the meeting.

It's refreshing after reading the biased 'journalism' we've seen on this subject lately.

With all of the rain you can’t ride on the trails, so skip the gym or the stationary trainer and help determine what you will or won’t ride for the rest of your life in Guilford County.

We need a HUGE show of force for this Thursday’s Commissioners meeting.  At 5:30 pm, even if you don’t plan to speak.  Please come early and bring your bike helmet so commissioners understand who is actually the vocal minority vs. a big voting block!

See Web site:  http://www.myguilford.com/event/board-of-commissioners-meeting-19/

The commissioners  vote and decision on Rich Fork Preserve will likely set a precedent on open space property  and mt. bike trail access.  The mt. bike community voted to support the $10 million in bonds  since they were supposed to enable trails such as Rich Fork for bikes to use.

Open Space said, NO TO BIKE ACCESS for Haw River/ Bill Craft, NO to Company Mill near Hagen Stone, and now they are saying NO to Rich Fork. Many of you rode for a decade on this area as part of the “Northwood Elementary trails”.  So the trails are still on the ground and  10 of the 30 acres proposed for trail access have been clear cut logged.  So you can imagine if this is not viewed as “suitable for mt. biking”, nothing will be.    PLEASE ATTEND!

The article on the Front Page of Saturday’s paper:

http://www.greensboro.com/news/high-point-ymca-could-manage-nature-preserve-for-county/article_ed77b341-66da-560c-9cda-3622a53c7a62.html

Susan Ladd’s biased article in Sunday’s paper is here:

http://www.greensboro.com/blogs/around_town/susan-ladd-henning-pulls-a-fast-one-on-guilford-county/article_3508afe5-627e-56ae-b6ca-27e7aacbfeb4.html

BTW the GFTS and Guilford County Parks were not proponents of separating this preserve from County ownership to the YMCA.   The issue is why out of 1,770 acres has absolutely no bike access been allowed?  We are looking for access to less than 25% of the park and none of the area around the historic home site or interfering with the Conner Trail.

Thanks.
