Thanks to those that came out to the County Commission meeting Thursday evening. A special thanks to those that spoke about what Mountain Biking really is and what it means to our community.

It's refreshing after reading the biased 'journalism' we've seen on this subject lately.
With all of the rain you can’t ride on the trails, so skip the gym or the stationary trainer and help determine what you will or won’t ride for the rest of your life in Guilford County.
We need a HUGE show of force for this Thursday’s Commissioners meeting. At 5:30 pm, even if you don’t plan to speak. Please come early and bring your bike helmet so commissioners understand who is actually the vocal minority vs. a big voting block!

The commissioners vote and decision on Rich Fork Preserve will likely set a precedent on open space property and mt. bike trail access. The mt. bike community voted to support the $10 million in bonds since they were supposed to enable trails such as Rich Fork for bikes to use.
Open Space said, NO TO BIKE ACCESS for Haw River/ Bill Craft, NO to Company Mill near Hagen Stone, and now they are saying NO to Rich Fork. Many of you rode for a decade on this area as part of the “Northwood Elementary trails”. So the trails are still on the ground and 10 of the 30 acres proposed for trail access have been clear cut logged. So you can imagine if this is not viewed as “suitable for mt. biking”, nothing will be. PLEASE ATTEND!
The article on the Front Page of Saturday’s paper:
Susan Ladd’s biased article in Sunday’s paper is here:
BTW the GFTS and Guilford County Parks were not proponents of separating this preserve from County ownership to the YMCA. The issue is why out of 1,770 acres has absolutely no bike access been allowed? We are looking for access to less than 25% of the park and none of the area around the historic home site or interfering with the Conner Trail.
Thanks.
It's time for Burn The Turkey 2015!
Once again we will be getting together Thanksgiving weekend to collect food and cash donations for Second Harvest Food Bank, riding some trails, hanging out, eating chili, just general good times.
What: 2015 Burn The Turkey
Where: Bur-Mil Shelter #1 by the Big Loop trail head near the swimming pool
When: Saturday, November 28, 2015 9:00 AM We plan to have a variety of rides depending on the groups we have turn out. Beginners, old-timers, kids, short rides, longer rides etc... If somebody wants to ride, we will do it.
We will have a couple pots of Chili, corn bread, and hot cocoa to warm up with after you ride.
We will be collecting canned food and cash for the Second Harvest Food Bank, so please bring something to donate to help support the good work those folks do.
Stuff to bring: Mountain bike, helmet, water, tube or patch kit, appetite.
As always, if the trails are closed, we aren't riding. (But we might still hang out and eat chili.)
Dear Fat Tire supporter,
By now many of you will have gotten an email from IMBA detailing an increase in basic membership rates from $30 to $35 a year.
We, on the GFTS board, wanted to send you a message personally about this increase. We want to let you know why we support the increase. A five dollar a year increase in membership for individual members means the ability for IMBA to continue and increase programs like Take a Kid Mountain Biking day or Trail Care Crew visits that benefit our chapter greatly. This will also be an increase in funds directly into trails in the Piedmont area, where we all ride.
This increase becomes effective in January and does not affect any other membership besides the lowest level basic membership. There are also ways to avoid this increase in membership support for your own membership. By setting your membership to auto renew you can keep your membership level at $30 until you have a break in membership.
For more information please visit the IMBA FAQ’s HERE .
While you are thinking about it, Click here to renew or join now.
We hope that you will continue to support the Greensboro Fat Tire Society and IMBA through your membership. Now, especially, we need a strong unified voice for trails.
Thank you for your time. I hope to see you out on a trail soon.
Scott S.
GFTS President
The Guilford County Parks & Recreation Commission is meeting tonight. On the agenda is a review of the Rich Fork Master Plan.
The legacy mountain bike trails near Northwood Elementary School in High Point are part of the Rich Fork property. There are folks that do not want mountain bike trails on this property and would like them removed from this plan and they are actively working to that end.
If you care about mountain biking trails, in High Point specifically and the Triad area overall, PLEASE come to this meeting and show your support! The more public support the commission sees the better. We need to make them understand that we want MTB trails included in the Rich Fork plan.
The Sizzler is fast approaching!
We need volunteers to help out on race weekend.
If you want to help out click here to volunteer. - THANK YOU!
If you are planning on racing click here to register .
