Blue Heron is having a vegetation trim this Saturday 5/28/2016

The overgrowth on Blue Heron is getting thick and we are going to trim it back and could use some help. We will be using weedeaters, rakes, loppers and blowers as well as a few tools to do minor trail maintenance along the way. We will meet at the Yanceyville parking lot and then divide into teams. A team will head in from Yanceyville and another will go to Church street and work in from there. If we have a large enough turnout we can also send a team to King Fisher and / or Reedy Fork Church street end.

If you have working weedeaters or blowers and want to use them bring them along but please ensure they are in good working order.  The same goes for rakes and loppers. Don't forget fuel if you bring a power tool.

Where: Blue Heron Trail - Parking Lot 4953 Yanceyville Rd.

When: Saturday 5/28/2016 09:00 am - 1:00 pm

Stuff to bring: Gloves, appropriate clothing/shoes/boots, eye and hearing protection if working with/around power tools, water, snack.

Details: We will be clearing vegetation that is encroaching on the trail. Depending on how many folks show we will divide into teams and work different sections.

Note: If you are not coming out to work with us you might consider riding a different trail Saturday morning. When we're cutting a section there will be briers and other debris on the tread that you might not want to ride through.

Thanks to everybody who made it out to the Trail Workday! We had a nice, cool day and although the drizzle got heavy at times we never really saw any rain. We worked a few different sites throughout the day. Little Loop got some attention with a nice re-route, attention to some rough spots and new rock work.

Don't look at the camera, get back to work!
This is going to be fun.
Cool rock.
Man and machine or boy and toy? You decide.
Action shot!
Rock. Roll.

Owls Roost also saw some trail love,  wooden decking replaced with nice earth work and massaging of some rough spots.

Still waiting for photos from the OR crew, we'll add them when they arrive.

ellow mountain bikers.  We DO NOT CONDONE riding closed or unsanctioned trails.  We certainly DO NOT CONDONE performing unauthorized trail building or maintenance.  It is critical that our actions demonstrate the utmost in cooperation and respect with our land managers and government officials.  Without their support, we will not have any place to ride.

REI and the Fat Tire Society are hosting a Trail workday Saturday April 30, 2016. Mark your calendar and plan to come out!

What: REI/FTS Trail Workday

Where: Bur-Mil Park - Wildlife Center at the bottom of the hill

When: Saturday 4/30/2016 @ 08:00 am

Meet at the Bur-Mil park wildlife center. From 08:00 - 08:30 we'll be registering folks and dividing into groups to work multiple locations that day.

Sorry for the short notice but we've got a couple trail issues that need to be addressed ASAP so we figured we'd see if we can get some help.

What: Short Notice Trail work day RF, BH, KF.

Where: Reedy Fork Trail head on Lake Brandt Rd.

When: Sunday January 10, 2016  09:00 until 2:00 (ish)

Stuff to bring: Gloves, appropriate clothing/shoes/boots, water, snack.

Details: There are 2 large trees down on Reedy Fork. The first one is on the first bridge from Lake Brandt Rd. and has broken that section of the bridge. The second tree is further down the trail after you pass the beaver dam and the bridge after it. Our first task will be to clear both trees. Then a crew will stay at the bridge to perform the necessary repairs and others will head to Blue Heron to clear a couple spots of some pretty bad mud. Then that crew will go to King Fisher to work on a berm that experienced some erosion in all the rain we've received in the last month. If you have ridden any of these trails in the last week you know exactly what we are talking about.

Oh yeah, we will be hauling lumber in to the bridge at 9 am

We are having a trail maintenance workday next Saturday on Blue Heron and King Fisher trails. Please come and help if you can.

What: Saturday Trail Maintenance – Blue Heron & King Fisher

Where: Yanceyville Rd. Parking lot.

When: Saturday 12/12/15 09:00 am to 1:00 pm

Stuff to bring: Gloves, appropriate clothing/shoes/boots, water, snack.

We'll be working on Blue Heron and King Fisher trails Saturday morning from 9 am to 1 pm. The work will be routine maintenance, de-berming and clearing drainage areas, removing select roots, cutting back encroaching brush, and fixing any other issues we come across.

If you are pretty sure you are coming out please let us know here so we can bring enough tools.

You can also ride out, work for a while and continue your ride.

The weather forecast is looking pretty good, come out and work a while and then ride.

Remember, all of our trails are maintained by volunteers, without volunteers our trails would not be near the quality that they are. Without you we have no volunteers.
